Nallely Ayala Studying in Barcelona through New International Internship Program

SUNY Oneonta senior Nallely Ayala of Pine Plains, NY, is spending the spring semester in Barcelona, Spain, where she will complete an internship at the Study Centre for Peace J.M. Delas. Ayala, a dual major in International Studies and Spanish, is the first SUNY Oneonta student to pursue an internship through the college's new international internship program, which offers opportunities in 12 major cities around the world in partnership with the Academic Internship Council and Connect-123.

SUNY Oneonta Student Rachel Gullotta Exhibiting Photography in Solo Show

An exhibition of digital photography by SUNY Oneonta senior Rachel Gullotta is on display at the Martin-Mullen Gallery Exhibition Hall in the college's Fine Arts Center. Titled "The Four Seasons and the Night," the solo show features more than 40 11- by 14-inch photographs taken during the past three years by Gullotta, a Computer Art and Communication Studies major from Tully, NY.

Nine SUNY Oneonta student leaders served as conference assistants for the college's Emerging Leaders conference in November 2014. Faculty, professional staff, alumni and community members led educational sessions on topics such as: leadership development, assessment and evaluation, event management, meaningful interpersonal relationships, collaboration, social responsibility, effective communication, multicultural competency, intellectual growth and clarified values.

Local Residents Among December Grads at SUNY Oneonta

Local residents are among the 334 students who graduated from SUNY Oneonta following the Fall 2014 semester. Graduates were honored at a December recognition ceremony hosted by College President Nancy Kleniewski and held in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House. They also are eligible to participate in the college's commencement on May 15.

48 SUNY Oneonta Students Studying Abroad in Spring 2015

A total of 48 SUNY Oneonta students are studying abroad this spring through semester-long and academic-year programs in 13 countries. SUNY Oneonta offers exchange programs in Ghana, Ecuador, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan through the Office of International Education, plus a variety of short-term, faculty-led programs. Oneonta students also have access to more than 600 study abroad and exchange programs through the SUNY network.

16 Students Achieve LEAD Milestones

SUNY Oneonta recognized 16 students who achieved certification in the college's Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program during the fall 2014 semester. LEAD@Oneonta is a comprehensive leadership program based on current research and guidelines from the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. There are three levels of leadership certification: Silver, Gold and Platinum.

A total of 1431 SUNY Oneonta students earned Dean's List honors for the fall 2014 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more.

Students Organize Fundraiser for Food Pantry

Three SUNY Oneonta event planning students organized a benefit fashion show for a local food pantry on Dec. 5. Held at the Oneonta Elks Club, the event raised nearly $1,100 for the St. Mary's Food Pantry in Oneonta. More than 50 students were involved in the fundraiser, which included a pasta dinner prepared by food service and restaurant administration students, followed by a fashion show featuring 27 student models.

A team of 13 economics and business economics students from SUNY Oneonta won an Honorable Mention Award in the 2014 College Fed Challenge, held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in November.

Alanna Bergstrom Wins SUNY Leadership Award

SUNY Oneonta junior Alanna Bergstrom, an environmental science major from Staten Island, has been chosen to receive the SUNY Emerging Leaders Award. The award recognizes students who have demonstrated significant leadership within their campuses and/or communities. Recipients attended the SUNY Student Leadership Institute from Oct. 17-19 in Rochester.

SUNY Oneonta has selected 15 freshmen to participate in Critical MaSS: Math and Science Scholars, a scholarship program supporting students who plan to pursue careers or advanced degree programs in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
