15 student athletes competed for the SUNY Oneonta women's swimming & diving team this winter.

Twelve students spent a week in New Orleans doing wetlands restoration service-learning projects in the Lower Ninth Ward. Working with a nonprofit organization called Common Ground Relief, the students planted hardy, fast-growing native plants and removed invasive species in coastal areas imperiled by hurricanes, development and engineering projects that have eroded land and endangered wildlife.

Two SUNY Oneonta students were recognized for outstanding academic achievement during the college's Chi Alpha Epsilon national honor society induction ceremony on Feb. 17.

Twenty-one students were inducted into SUNY Oneonta's Beta Eta Chapter of the Chi Alpha Epsilon national honor society on Feb. 17. Chi Alpha Epsilon was formed in 1989 to recognize the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and universities through nontraditional criteria. Beta Eta Chapter members are full-time Educational Opportunity Program and College Assistance Migrant Program students who have held a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for at least two consecutive semesters.

The USTFCCCA recognized four SUNY Oneonta student athletes for their performance in the classroom.

More than a dozen SUNY Oneonta students and recent graduates got an inside look at the presidential election process by hitting the campaign trail for various candidates in the final days leading up to the New Hampshire primary.

Fifteen SUNY Oneonta political science students got an inside look at the presidential election process during a five-day trip to New Hampshire that culminated Feb. 9 with the first-in-the-nation primary. The trip is part of a semester-long course, POLS 216: Presidential Election Campaigns, taught by Associate Professor of Political Science Gina Keel. While in New Hampshire, students attended candidate rallies, town hall meetings and other events, witnessing firsthand the campaigning and media frenzy in the last days before the primary.

Peter Booth of Hamden, NY, co-presented a research project at the annual meeting of the Geological Society of America in Baltimore, Md., last fall. Booth co-authored "Views of the River: Flood Records, Lidar, UAV, and Canoe Based Monitoring of Meander Migration in Upstate New York" with another SUNY Oneonta student and Associate Professor of Earth & Atmospheric Sciences Les Hasbargen.

A total of 53 SUNY Oneonta students are studying abroad this spring through semester-long and academic-year programs in 12 countries. SUNY Oneonta offers study abroad and exchange programs in Finland, Ghana, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea, Sweden and Taiwan through the Office of International Education, plus a variety of short-term, faculty-led programs throughout the year.

SUNY Oneonta welcomed 205 new freshman and transfer students this semester. Admission to Oneonta is competitive, and we're proud to welcome a smart, talented, engaged group of students hailing from across New York, and from as far away as San Francisco, Japan and South Korea.

SUNY Oneonta inducted 47 students into its chapter of Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honor society, in December 2015. Invitation to apply for membership is based on recommendation, junior or senior standing, and an overall grade-point average of 3.0 or better.

More than 300 students met requirements for graduation from SUNY Oneonta following the fall 2015 semester. Graduates were honored at a December recognition ceremony hosted by college President Nancy Kleniewski. They also are eligible to participate in the college's commencement on May 14.

A total of 126 SUNY Oneonta students earned Provost's List honors for the Fall 2015 semester. To qualify for the Provost's List, a student must earn a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more.

A total of 1,513 SUNY Oneonta students earned Dean's List honors for the fall 2015 semester. To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher while carrying a course load of 12 hours or more.

27 student athletes played for the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team this fall.

Senior men's soccer player Dylan Williams was selected as an NSCAA Scholar All-American for a second consecutive year.

SUNY Oneonta Inter-Fraternity Council President Russell Lowe organized a highly successful Gift of Life Bone Marrow Registration Drive on the college's campus in October.

Thirty-four members of SUNY Oneonta's Zeta Beta Tau fraternity chapter organized a highly successful Gift of Life Bone Marrow Registration Drive on the SUNY Oneonta campus in October.

SUNY Oneonta swim captain Greg Fothergill participated in Polar Plunge for Special Olympics.

A team of SUNY Oneonta students won an honorable mention award at the 2015 College Fed Challenge competition on Nov. 16. This was the third consecutive year that SUNY Oneonta has made it to the semifinals of the intercollegiate monetary policy competition, held at the New York Federal Reserve Bank.

Four SUNY Oneonta students and recent graduates have won prizes for photos they took while studying abroad. The college's Office of International Education holds a Study Abroad Photo Contest every year with two categories: Culture and Society, for photos where the focal point of attention is on the customs, objects and historical sites; and Nature, where the focal point of the photo is a landscape or vista.
