The following local residents are among 1,507 students from SUNY Oneonta who earned Dean's List honors for the fall 2010 semester.

SUNY Oneonta has honored 45 students as the college's "Best and Brightest" for the fall 2010 semester. The "Best and Brightest" program acknowledges students for outstanding performance in academic work, community involvement, research, or special projects. Faculty and staff members at SUNY Oneonta nominate the students for the recognition.

Four seniors at the SUNY College at Oneonta are among a select group of State University of New York students chosen to receive the 2010 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence. SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher presented the awards to the students on April 6 at a reception in their honor at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany. The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence is the highest honor that SUNY bestows upon students. It is presented annually to SUNY students who demonstrate academic excellence and integrate it with other qualities such as leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, entrepreneurship, or career achievement. The four SUNY Oneonta students who received the 2010 SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence are as follows:

The folloing local residents were among seventeen students from the SUNY College at Oneonta who have been selected to present the results of the research projects that they conducted with guidance from faculty members at the first SUNY-wide symposium of undergraduate research and creative activities. "SUNY Undergraduates Shaping New York's Future: A Showcase of Scholarly Posters at the Capitol" will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13, in the well of the Legislative Office Building in Albany.

The following local students were among a team of students from the SUNY College at Oneonta who reached the finals of the highly competitive College Fed Challenge sponsored by the Eastern Economic Association in conjunction with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The SUNY Oneonta team defeated teams from more than 30 colleges and universities, including Cornell, Princeton, and SUNY Binghamton. Advised by Associate Professor of Economics David Ring, the team finished third in the regional competition open to all colleges and universities in the Federal Reserve's second district.

The following local residents are among the 85 students who are being honored by SUNY College at Oneonta as "The Best and Brightest" students for the fall 2009 semester.

The Chamber Singers of SUNY Oneonta, conducted by Dr. Timothy Newton of the SUNY Oneonta Music Department, have been selected as one of 11 collegiate choirs to perform at Yale University as part of the National Collegiate Choral Organization's national conference in November. The SUNY Oneonta Chamber Singers will form a double chorus with the Indiana University-Pennsylvania Concert Choir in a performance conducted by Grammy-Award-winning conductor Vance George, retired conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra Chorus.

John Relethford, Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Anthropology Department of the SUNY College at Oneonta, has completed the eighth edition of his popular college textbook "The Human Species: An Introduction to Biological Anthropology." The text was released recently by McGraw-Hill Publishers.
