Students Present Papers at Undergraduate Philosophy Conference

Three SUNY Oneonta students presented papers at the college's 19th annual Undergraduate Political Science Conference from April 11-12. A total of 22 students from colleges across the country were selected to present papers at the conference, which featured keynote lectures titled "Mitosis & Abortion" by Dr. Douglas Lackey of Baruch College and "Remembrances: Cultural Memory as a Form of Resistance" by Dr. Taine Duncan of the University of Central Arkansas.

17 Students Win Art Awards

Seventeen SUNY Oneonta students received awards for artwork displayed in the college's Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition, featuring more than 100 works by student artists, opened April 14 and runs through May 17 in the college's Martin-Mullen Art Gallery.

Seven Oneonta Students Present Papers at Regional History Conference

Seven SUNY Oneonta students presented papers at the Phi Alpha Theta NY Upper Regional Conference for History Undergraduates, hosted by SUNY Oneonta on April 12. A total of 33 students from colleges throughout the Northeast were selected to present papers at the conference, which featured a keynote address titled "History Major to History Ph.D.: Pursuing Historical Studies from Undergraduate to Graduate School" by SUNY Oneonta alumna Dr. Meagan Butler of the University of Glasgow.

Thirteen SUNY Oneonta students presented papers at the college's fifth annual New Critics: Undergraduate Literature and Composition Conference on April 19. A total of 21 students from colleges throughout New York state and as far away as Los Angeles were selected to present papers at the conference, which featured a keynote address by PEN/Jerard Award-winning creative nonfiction writer Colette Brooks.

Students Chosen to Present Papers at Undergraduate Political Science Conference

Four SUNY Oneonta students presented papers at the college's sixth annual Undergraduate Political Science Conference on March 14. A total of 13 students from colleges throughout New York state were selected to present papers at the conference, which featured a keynote address titled "Human Rights and Chinese Investment in Africa" by Dr. Muna Ndulo, Professor of Law and Director of the Institute for African Development at Cornell University Law School.

Top SUNY Oneonta Business Students Inducted Into International Honor Society

SUNY Oneonta inducted 24 students into its chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma, international honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, during a ceremony on April 25. Students ranking in the top 10 percent of baccalaureate programs and the top 20 percent of graduate programs at schools accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, are eligible for this invitation.

SUNY Oneonta Students Win Honors at National Model UN

Fifteen SUNY Oneonta students spent part of their spring break at the National Model United Nations Conference in New York City from March 30-April 3. This year's delegation, representing C?te d'Ivoire, was one of 28 groups from around the world selected to receive the Distinguished Delegation award at the end of the five-day conference. This is a high honor, placing the Oneonta delegation in the top 10 percent of participants.

15 SUNY Oneonta Students Inducted into Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society

A total of 15 new members were inducted into the SUNY Oneonta Alpha-Kappa-Iota chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, on April 7. Phi Alpha Theta is an American honor society for undergraduate students, graduate students, and professors of history, and is the second oldest such society in the United States. The society has over 350,000 members, with about 9,500 new members joining each year through 860 local chapters.

16 Scholar-Athletes Inducted into SUNY Oneonta Chi Alpha Sigma Chapter

SUNY Oneonta recognized 16 student athletes by inducting them into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, during a luncheon held on April 10. To qualify for induction a student athlete must have achieved at least junior standing with a cumulative 3.4 grade point average while earning a varsity letter in an NCAA intercollegiate sport. Each student athlete must also be of good moral character and have the endorsement of his/her coach and the Chapter President.

Jermaine Miller Sets School Diving Records, Competes at National Championships

SUNY Oneonta senior Jermaine Miller of Elmira competed for the last time as a Red Dragon on March 19 and 21, returning to the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships for a third straight year. This year's championships were hosted by Franklin College on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, IN. Miller, who set school records in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events earlier in the season, was one of only 25 men who qualified for the championships.

Anthony Castoria Wins Video Contest

Anthony Castoria of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, is the winner of a video contest organized by the SUNY Oneonta Office of Sustainability to promote the college's new single-stream recycling program. Castoria, a senior majoring in mass communications, won a $100 gift card to the college's bookstore for his video, which offered a light-hearted take on which items can -- and cannot -- be tossed into the new blue recycling bins on campus.

Kajee Kodrich-Quick Publishes Roller-Derby Inspired Essay in National Journal

Lessons learned on the roller derby track have led to nearly a year of research--and an essay publication in a national journal--for SUNY Oneonta student Kajee Kodrich-Quick of Unadilla, N.Y. Titled "Hitting up the ladder: Leadership Lessons from a Derby Girl," Kodrich-Quick's piece appears in the March issue of Women in Higher Education, a nationally recognized, monthly journal for women in the field of higher education.
