Top Business Students Inducted Into Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society

Twenty-seven students from SUNY Oneonta's School of Economics and Business were inducted into the college's Beta Gamma Sigma honor society chapter during the 2020-21 academic year. Only the best business students in the world, and the professionals who earned the distinction of "the Best in Business" during their academic careers, can claim membership in Beta Gamma Sigma. Students ranking in the top 10 percent of the baccalaureate and top 20 percent of graduate programs at schools accredited by AACSB International - The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business are eligible for this invitation. Beta Gamma Sigma has installed collegiate chapters and inducted students on six continents. SUNY Oneonta's School of Economics and Business offers majors in business economics, professional accounting and economics; concentrations in accounting, finance, international business and economics, and marketing; and cooperative programs in business administration, management science, and fashion merchandising management, advertising and marketing communications, manufacturing management, and textile development and marketing.

Top Business Students Inducted into Honorary Society in Economics

Six students from SUNY Oneonta's School of Economics and Business were inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the college's honorary society in economics for the 2020-21 academic year. The requirements are at least 18 hours of economics courses completed, and a 3.0 or better both in GPA overall and for economics courses. SUNY Oneonta's School of Economics and Business offers majors in business economics, professional accounting and economics; concentrations in accounting, finance, international business and economics, and marketing; and cooperative programs in business administration, management science, and fashion merchandising management, advertising and marketing communications, manufacturing management, and textile development and marketing.

26 Students Inducted into ODK Leadership Honor Society

The SUNY Oneonta Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, inducted 26 new student members during the 2020-21 academic year. Omicron Delta Kappa Society is the national leadership honor society for college students, faculty, staff, administrators, and alumni that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership, and exemplary character. Membership in ODK is a mark of the highest distinction and honor. The Society recognizes achievement in the following areas: Scholarship Athletics Campus/Community Service; Social/Religious Activities, and Campus Government Journalism; and Speech and the Mass Media Creative and Performing Arts. Emphasis is placed on the development of the whole person, both as a member of the college community and as a contributor to a better society.

Fifty-eight SUNY Oneonta students were inducted into the Tau Sigma National Honor Society for the 2020-21 academic year. Tau Sigma is designed exclusively for transfer students. The mission of the organization is to recognize and promote the academic excellence and involvement of transfer students. The minimum academic average required for membership is either a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent thereof) or an academic average that places the prospective candidate in the top 20 percent of all incoming transfer students during their incoming semester.

National History Honor Society inducts 10 new members

Ten new members were inducted into SUNY Oneonta's Alpha-Kappa-Iota chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honor Society. Phi Alpha Theta is an American honor society for undergraduate students, graduate students, and professors of history, and is the second oldest such society in the United States. The society has over 350,000 members, with about 9,500 new members joining each year through 860 local chapters. Phi Alpha Theta was established on March 17, 1921 at the University of Arkansas by Professor Nels Cleven. In order to be inducted, undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours (four courses) in History, achieve a minimum GPA of 3.1 in History and a GPA of 3.0 or better overall. A maximum of 3 credit hours of online, transfer, or AP credits may be applied to the membership eligibility requirement. Membership is not limited to History majors.

Omicron Delta Epsilon is one of the world's largest academic honor societies with 696 chapters located in the United States and 10 other countries worldwide. Juniors and seniors majoring or minoring in Economics, or any student in the School of Economics and Business completing a Finance concentration with an overall and Economics GPA of 3.0 and higher, are invited to become members.

Eighteen students earned membership in SUNY Oneonta's Beta Eta Chapter of the Chi Alpha Epsilon (XAE) national honor society during the 2018-19 academic year. To be inducted into XAE, students must earn a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better for two consecutive, full-time semesters, and must have been admitted to college through an opportunity program (Access to College Excellence, College Assistance Migrant Program or Educational Opportunity Program).

Twenty-one students were inducted into SUNY Oneonta's Beta Eta Chapter of the Chi Alpha Epsilon national honor society on Feb. 17. Chi Alpha Epsilon was formed in 1989 to recognize the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and universities through nontraditional criteria. Beta Eta Chapter members are full-time Educational Opportunity Program and College Assistance Migrant Program students who have held a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for at least two consecutive semesters.
