Michael Morales Competes in Drum Corps International World Championships

While many college students are spending the summer waiting tables, working as interns or perfecting their tans, SUNY Oneonta junior Michael Morales has been marching to the beat of a different drum. Morales, a music industry major from Warwick, N.Y., is touring the country with Drum Corps International (DCI), a competitive league of drum and bugle corps marching ensembles that presents choreographed musical performances at venues ranging from high school football fields to NFL stadiums.

17 Students Win Art Awards

Seventeen SUNY Oneonta students received awards for artwork displayed in the college's Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition. The exhibition, featuring more than 100 works by student artists, opened April 14 and runs through May 17 in the college's Martin-Mullen Art Gallery.

SUNY Oneonta Senior Jillian Massey Chosen to Sing on International Stage

SUNY Oneonta senior Jill Massey will sing Johannes Brahms' choral masterwork "Ein deutsches Requiem" as a chorister with the Philharmonia Chorus on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Massey, a music major from Bloomville, N.Y., and a 2010 graduate of South Kortright Central School, submitted a video audition in December after being encouraged by Associate Professor of Music Timothy Newton, who will also be singing in the performance.

Chris Mackin Directs SUNY Oneonta Production of "No Exit"

Chris Mackin of Merrick, N.Y., made his collegiate directorial debut on Oct. 31, opening night of the Mask and Hammer theatre club's production of "No Exit" at SUNY Oneonta. An existential drama written by French philosopher and playwright Jean-Paul Sartre, "No Exit" ran from Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in SUNY Oneonta's Hamblin Theater. Mackin is a junior majoring in theatre at SUNY Oneonta.

16 SUNY Oneonta Student Artists Receive Awards

SUNY Oneonta honored 16 student artists during a reception on April 18 in the college's Martin-Mullen Art Gallery. More than 100 works by student artists were on display April 15 through May 18 during the college's Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition exhibition, which featured sculpture, ceramics, digital prints, drawings, paintings and video art. The Dr. James Jerow Elting Memorial Awards were presented at a reception for the artists. The following students received awards:

Chamber Singers to Perform at Yale University

The Chamber Singers of SUNY Oneonta, conducted by Dr. Timothy Newton of the SUNY Oneonta Music Department, have been selected as one of 11 collegiate choirs to perform at Yale University as part of the National Collegiate Choral Organization's national conference in November. The SUNY Oneonta Chamber Singers will form a double chorus with the Indiana University-Pennsylvania Concert Choir in a performance conducted by Grammy-Award-winning conductor Vance George, retired conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
