SUNY Oneonta will open the 2017-18 gallery season with an exhibitions featuring artwork by student scholarship winners. "Student Recipient Exhibition, Jean Parish Memorial Scholarship 2016-2017" opens Sept. 11 and will run until Oct. 6 in the Project Space Gallery. This exhibit will feature the artwork of recipients of the 2016-2017 Jean Parish Memorial Scholarship awards: Lorelei Olk, Cap Dramstad, Jessica Tyler, Noah Barton, Briela Tollisen and Megan Jansen. A range of styles and media - including drawing, painting, photography, prints and mixed media - will be presented. A reception for the exhibit and student presentations will take place Thursday, Sept. 14, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., funded through the estate gift of Jean Parish, faculty emerita in art, to the college foundation. The Project Space Gallery is free and open to the public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday when the college is in session and during special events. Featured artworks were chosen from an open jury process and works entered by the art faculty. On display through May 13 at the Martin-Mullen Art Gallery in the college's Fine Arts Center, the exhibition features more than 100 works by student artists. An exhibit featuring the combined talents of SUNY Oneonta students Sarah Tucker and Noah Barton is on display from December 5-20 in the Project Space Gallery of the Fine Arts Center.

A photography exhibit showcasing the work of SUNY Oneonta senior Michelle Morales was displayed November 7-22 at the Project Space Gallery in the college's Fine Arts Center.

SUNY Oneonta honored 23 recipients of the George E. Zimmerman Memorial Awards, Jean Parish Art on Campus Awards, Martin-Mullen Art Gallery Awards and Golden Artist Colors Inc. Gift Certificate Awards during a reception on April 17. The award winners are among more than 100 student artists whose work was selected to be featured in the 2016 Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition, which opened April 11 and runs through May 14 in the college's Martin-Mullen Art Gallery.

SUNY Oneonta's Hooked On Tonics a cappella group competed in an International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Northeast Quarterfinal on Feb. 20 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

SUNY Oneonta senior Micaelina Velardi of New Berlin, NY, will direct "The Marriage Proposal" and "The Brute," two one-act comedies written by Anton Chekhov, this weekend. Performances will be in SUNY Oneonta's Hamblin Theater at 8 p.m. March 24-26 and at 2 p.m. March 27.

SUNY Oneonta senior theatre major Christopher Mackin of Merrick, NY, will direct four performances of "The House of Bernarda Alba," a drama written by Federico Garcia Lorca. Performances will be held in the college's Hamblin Theater on Thursday, March 26, Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, at 8 p.m., with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. March 29.

SUNY Oneonta Theatre major Jomary Pena of the Bronx has been awarded a Tayneshia Jefferson Mentorship scholarship to attend the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) national conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, this week.

More than 40 SUNY Oneonta students performed in a Musical Theatre Gala concert featuring the music of Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber on Friday, Jan. 30, at Goodrich Theater on the SUNY Oneonta campus.

While many college students are spending the summer waiting tables, working as interns or perfecting their tans, SUNY Oneonta junior Michael Morales has been marching to the beat of a different drum. Morales, a music industry major from Warwick, N.Y., is touring the country with Drum Corps International (DCI), a competitive league of drum and bugle corps marching ensembles that presents choreographed musical performances at venues ranging from high school football fields to NFL stadiums.

SUNY Oneonta senior Jill Massey will sing Johannes Brahms' choral masterwork "Ein deutsches Requiem" as a chorister with the Philharmonia Chorus on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Royal Festival Hall in London. Massey, a music major from Bloomville, N.Y., and a 2010 graduate of South Kortright Central School, submitted a video audition in December after being encouraged by Associate Professor of Music Timothy Newton, who will also be singing in the performance.

Chris Mackin of Merrick, N.Y., made his collegiate directorial debut on Oct. 31, opening night of the Mask and Hammer theatre club's production of "No Exit" at SUNY Oneonta. An existential drama written by French philosopher and playwright Jean-Paul Sartre, "No Exit" ran from Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in SUNY Oneonta's Hamblin Theater. Mackin is a junior majoring in theatre at SUNY Oneonta.

SUNY Oneonta honored 16 student artists during a reception on April 18 in the college's Martin-Mullen Art Gallery. More than 100 works by student artists were on display April 15 through May 18 during the college's Annual Student Juried Art Exhibition exhibition, which featured sculpture, ceramics, digital prints, drawings, paintings and video art. The Chamber Singers of SUNY Oneonta, conducted by Dr. Timothy Newton of the SUNY Oneonta Music Department, have been selected as one of 11 collegiate choirs to perform at Yale University as part of the National Collegiate Choral Organization's national conference in November. The SUNY Oneonta Chamber Singers will form a double chorus with the Indiana University-Pennsylvania Concert Choir in a performance conducted by Grammy-Award-winning conductor Vance George, retired conductor of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra Chorus.
