Four SUNY Oneonta Students Selected to Participate in Model Senate Program

Four SUNY Oneonta seniors have been selected to participate in the 2015 Model New York State Senate Session Project, an annual Latino/Hispanic heritage leadership development program organized by the City University of New York (CUNY) in collaboration with the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force of the New York State Legislature and the State University of New York (SUNY).

Nine SUNY Oneonta Students Volunteer as Emerging Leaders Conference Assistants

Nine SUNY Oneonta student leaders served as conference assistants for the college's Emerging Leaders conference in November 2014. Faculty, professional staff, alumni and community members led educational sessions on topics such as: leadership development, assessment and evaluation, event management, meaningful interpersonal relationships, collaboration, social responsibility, effective communication, multicultural competency, intellectual growth and clarified values.

16 Students Achieve LEAD Milestones

SUNY Oneonta recognized 16 students who achieved certification in the college's Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program during the fall 2014 semester. LEAD@Oneonta is a comprehensive leadership program based on current research and guidelines from the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. There are three levels of leadership certification: Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Alanna Bergstrom Wins SUNY Leadership Award

SUNY Oneonta junior Alanna Bergstrom, an environmental science major from Staten Island, has been chosen to receive the SUNY Emerging Leaders Award. The award recognizes students who have demonstrated significant leadership within their campuses and/or communities. Recipients attended the SUNY Student Leadership Institute from Oct. 17-19 in Rochester.

Five SUNY Oneonta Students Selected to Serve as Transfer Student Mentors

Five SUNY Oneonta students have been selected to serve as Transfer Student Mentors (TSMs) for the 2014-2015 academic year. Transfer Student Mentors lead programs and work closely with transfer students living in the Hulbert Hall T-Side wing. TSMs also assist with the Transfer Committee, which meets monthly to hear and address transfer students' concerns, and with Transfers Take The Lead, a series of programs and events designed to get transfer students engaged in LEAD@Oneonta programming.

14 SUNY Oneonta Students Selected to Serve as Very Influential Peers

Fourteen SUNY Oneonta students have been selected to serve as Very Influential Peers (VIPs) for the 2014-2015 academic year. VIPs work with freshmen who live in the college's First Year Experience (FYE) residence halls or are enrolled in the First Year Seminar. Their role in the seminar is to reinforce messages from the professor, to serve as a peer mentor, and to provide information about college life. They also assist with the Freshman 15, a program series exclusively for new students.

20 SUNY Oneonta Students Selected to Serve as Orientation Leaders

Twenty SUNY Oneonta students have been selected to serve as Orientation Leaders for the 2014-2015 academic year. In addition to leading activities for new students and their parents during 10 summer orientation sessions, Orientation Leaders welcome new students into their new community by leading small groups, answering questions about the college and college life, and mentoring new students through the first few weeks of the semester.
