Rachael Shine honored by SUNY Oneonta Athletics Department

The SUNY Oneonta athletics department held its 28th annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 2 and honored 16 student athletes as major award recipients.

Rachael Shine of Clifton Park, NY was one of the major award winners for the 2016-17 year.

Shine was the recipent of the Dr. Joseph Heissan '63 Senior Achievement Award. Shine will graduate as one of the most decorated student athletes in the history of the college. She earned numerous athletic and academic honors at every level during her four-year career with the cross country and track & field program. Entering the outdoor season, Shine is a four-time All-American and six-time SUNYAC champion overall. She holds school and SUNYAC records in both cross country and track & field. Shine was the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year for cross country last fall and is a five-time USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete while earning a SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence this spring.

The Heissan Award is given annually to a senior based on a cumulative four-year career while a student athlete and based on the following criteria; Must be a four-year player; Must have legitimate athletic credentials; Must have legitimate academic credentials.
