Michael Engesser of Medford, NY, Enrolls at SUNY Oneonta

Michael Engesser of Medford, NY, has been admitted to SUNY Oneonta as a member of the Class of 2017. Approximately 1,100 new students, selected from more than 12,000 applicants, began their studies at SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Engesser, whose SUNY Oneonta major is Computer Science, is a graduate of Longwood Senior High School.

The SUNY Oneonta Class of 2017 is exceptionally talented and diverse, said Roger Sullivan, the college's associate vice president for enrollment management. The freshman class has an average high school grade-point average of 91 and an average combined math and critical reading SAT score of 1135. Acceptances of AALANA (African American, Latino, Asian and Native American) students were up 11.3% this year, and for the first time, AALANA students accounted for 1 in 5 new freshmen and transfer students.

A liberal arts college focused on teaching and learning, SUNY Oneonta ranks 16th among the "Top Public Regional Universities--North" in the 2014 U.S. News and World Report rankings, sits at No. 59 on the Kiplinger's magazine list of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" and has been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for excellence in community engagement. The college also has been named to the Princeton Review's "green" college guide every year since the guide's inception.

Established as a state normal school in 1889 and incorporated as a founding member of the state university system in 1948, SUNY Oneonta is well known for its outstanding faculty, strong academic programs, educational technology, community service and character-building activities, and scenic campus. The college enrolls 6,000 students in its 70 undergraduate majors and 15 graduate programs.
