Micaelina Velardi Receives Academic Achievement Award

2015 Apr 9

Micaelina Velardi of New Berlin, NY, was one of 50 outstanding SUNY Oneonta seniors selected to receive a 2015 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive awards.

Velardi received the Department of Theatre award.

To be considered for the award, a student must be a senior with a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in an academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

In her first semester at SUNY Oneonta, Velardi was assistant properties manager for the Theatre Department’s production of “Clybourne Park.” She has also been an ensemble performer in “Carousel” and assistant stage manager for “9 Circles.” She is vice president for S.H.I.F.T (Setting Humanitarian Initiatives for Tomorrow), a human rights club that is currently raising money to send to LiNK (NGO), which sends nomads to help North Korean refugees escape. This semester, Velardi is treasurer for the Korean Cultural Club and a performer, choreographer, and mask and puppet designer for “Naga Mandala.” Outside the college, Velardi works for a dance school in Edmeston, NY.
