Micaelina Velardi Performs in Musical Theatre Gala Concert

Micaelina Velardi of New Berlin, NY, performed in a Musical Theatre Gala concert featuring the music of Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber on Friday, Jan. 30, at Goodrich Theater on the SUNY Oneonta campus.

Under the direction of Catskill Symphony Orchestra Maestro Charles Schneider, more than 40 students presented ballads and choruses from productions including "West Side Story," "Phantom of the Opera," "Sweeney Todd," "Sunset Boulevard," "On The Town," "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Sunday in the Park with George."

Velardi, whose major at SUNY Oneonta is Theatre, sang a duet, "All I Ask of You," from Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera." She also sang "You Could Drive a Person Crazy" from Sondheim's "Company" as part of a trio.

The students were joined by SUNY Oneonta alumni Kara Betke (2011), Steven Brandow (2010), Ryan Quinn (2013), Jacob Wansor (2013) and Joshua Tree Baker (2014), and Music Department faculty member Dr. Stephen Markuson. The program was organized by the college's and Music Department and Apollo Music Club, which celebrates its 10th anniversary under the direction of voice instructor Colby Thomas this year.
