Marielle Genovesi honored by SUNY Oneonta Athletics Department

The SUNY Oneonta athletics department held its 26th annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 5 and honored 15 student athletes as major award recipients.

Marielle Genovesi of Glen Head, NY was one of the major award winners for the 2014-15 year.

Genovesi was selected by the SUNY Oneonta athletics department as the recipient of the Lee Abbott Female Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2014-15. Genovesi is a double major in Anthropology and English. She is an All-SUNYAC and All-Region runner and was the third finisher for the women at the NCAA cross country championships last fall. In February, she earned selection to the USTFCCCA Division III Scholar Team.

The Lee Abbott Scholar Athlete Award is given annually to a starting player who has made a significant contribution to the team success while accumulating a minimum overall GPA of 3.3. Academic and athletic criteria are weighted equally.

A liberal arts institution with a strong focus on undergraduate research, SUNY Oneonta continually gains recognition for delivering excellence and value. The College boasts 21 NCAA Division III varsity sports and competes in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC).
