Marielle Genovesi Receives Academic Achievement Award

Marielle Genovesi of Glen Head, NY, was one of 50 outstanding SUNY Oneonta seniors selected to receive a 2015 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive awards.

Genovesi received the Anthropology Department award.

To be considered for the award, a student must be a senior with a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in an academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Genovesi is an anthropology and English double major who received the Jay Pawa Team Academic Award and the Susan Sutton Smith Award for Academic Excellence. She is a member of the cross country and track teams, and serves as editor for the Culture and Arts sections of The State Times student newspaper. In addition, she is a member of the Sigma Tau Delta, Chi Alpha Sigma and Omicron Delta Kappa national honor societies. In 2013, Genovesi participated in the Archaeological Field School at Pine Lake, NY, and she worked as a volunteer at the Garvies Point Native American Museum and Preserve in Glen Cove, NY, in 2013.
