Maia Roseval Receives Academic Achievement Award

2017 May 25

Maia Roseval of Levittown, NY, was one of 54 outstanding SUNY Oneonta students selected to receive a 2017 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive the award.

Roseval received the Geography and Environmental Sustainability Department award.

To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Roseval participated in two service-learning courses, one to Guatemala and one to New Orleans. In Guatemala, she helped work on water-quality projects and educational programming for children in a local community. In New Orleans, she worked on wetlands restoration projects meant to build up the storm buffer and restore the ecology in the Mississippi Delta region. Roseval has volunteered at the Saturday’s Bread feeding program and been involved with the Geography Club, Student Sustainability Committee and the Upper Susquehanna Conservation Coalition. She also served as an intern in the Sustainability Office on campus, helping to plan events such as the annual Green Dragon Week.
