Madeline Every Receives Award for Academic Excellence

2017 Nov 10

Madeline Every of Rochester, NY, is the recipient of the college's QTZ Scholarship Award and Peter W. Knightes Scholarship Award, given each year to a student within the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Every, who is pursuing a major in Adolescence Ed: Earth Science, was honored at the department's annual Majors' Night in October.

Now in its 41st year, Majors' Night offers the department's undergraduates the opportunity to network with alumni who return to campus for the event, where they share their experiences and offer advice to current students.

The QTZ Scholarship Award was established in 2001 by Terry Quinn (Class of 1982), Eric Tappa (Class of 1981) and James Zachos (Class of 1982), to help preserve the academic setting they fondly recalled from their undergraduate days at SUNY Oneonta. Through their generous support, and that of others who share their sentiment, this scholarship will recruit and retain students with outstanding performance in earth sciences disciplines. The Peter W. Knightes Scholarship Award is supported by an endowed fund launched by Peter Knightes, a 1967 SUNY Oneonta alumnus. Dr. Knightes taught college Earth Science in Texas until very recently. This scholarship is awarded to a student who intends to teach earth science in New York state.
