Luis Diaz Receives Honor Society Recognition for Outstanding Academic Achievement

2015 Feb 25

Luis Diaz of the Bronx, NY, was recognized for outstanding academic achievement as a member of the Chi Alpha Epsilon national honor society.

During a Feb. 5 ceremony, 21 students were inducted into SUNY Oneonta's Beta Eta Chapter of Chi Alpha Epsilon, and eight current honor society members received special recognition. Diaz, a graduate of the English Language Learners and International Support (ELLIS) Preparatory Academy who is majoring in Adolescent Education: Mathematics, received Emerald Key recognition for achieving a semester grade-point average of 3.75 to 3.79.

Chi Alpha Epsilon was formed in 1989 at West Chester University in Pennsylvania to recognize the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and universities through nontraditional criteria. Its purposes are to promote continued high academic standards, to foster increased communication among its members, and to honor academic excellence achieved by those students admitted to college via developmental programs.

SUNY Oneonta's Beta Eta Chapter members are full-time Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) students who have held a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for at least two consecutive semesters.
