Local Athletes selected to All-Conference Team

2017 Oct 31

A pair of SUNY Oneonta men earned SUNYAC All-Conference honors in cross country this past weekend after leading the Red Dragons to a second place finish at the conference championships. Junior Devin Akerley and sophomore Ethan McDonald both finished in the top-10 overall.

Akerley led a group of five finishers in the top-25 finishing second overall in the race. His finish earned him SUNYAC Cross Country Hall of Fame status becoming the ninth male in program history to earn the honor. His accomplishment also marks the third straight year that Oneonta has had a men's runner finish in the top-5. Akerley's second place performance was also the best all-time finish in the history of the men's program at the conference meet.

McDonald crossed the finish line in 27:27 to finish 10th overall earning Second Team All-Conference honors. McDonald has been a top-5 runner for Oneonta this season recording a personal best time of 25:30 in the 8K distance earlier this season.

Oneonta will have a week off before competing in the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships at Houghton College on Saturday, Nov. 11.
