Kevin Stearns receives Academic Achievement Award

Kevin Stearns of Schenectady, NY, was one of more than 50 outstanding SUNY Oneonta students selected to receive a 2018 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive the award.

Stearns received the Economics, Finance and Accounting award.

To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Stearns has been Executive Vice President/Chief Justice of the Student Association, Co-Chair Communication and Student Engagement Committee of the Student Advisory Council to the School of Economics and Business, President of Omicron Delta Epsilon (the International Honor Society for Economics), board-member of the Standing Disciplinary Board, President/Captain of the Ultimate Frisbee Club, and Peer Tutor for CADE. Kevin has worked as a volunteer for Into the Streets, and Hearts for Hope. Kevin has presented twice at SUNY Student Assembly Semi-Annual Conference, participated in the New York Federal Reserve Challenge for which the team placed third out of 44 colleges and universities in the 2nd Federal Reserve District, and has received National Model United Nations Delegation Honorable Mention. His other notable recognitions include the Richard Siegfried Award for Academic Excellence, Susan Sutton Smith Award, and Steven Edelstein '79 Scholarship in Honor of Dr. Foster Brown. In the fall, Stearns will enter the graduate program in economics at Syracuse University.
