Kera Tyler Receives Summer Internship Grant

2017 May 31

Kera Tyler of Oneonta, NY, has received a $700 grant to support an internship this summer at the Otsego County Personnel Office in Cooperstown, NY. Tyler is majoring in Business Economics at SUNY Oneonta.

Tyler is one of three SUNY Oneonta students who received funding totaling $5,700 to support summer internships through the Dewar Foundation Fund for Internship Support. The new fund, which will offer $12,500 to SUNY Oneonta students over the course of the year, helps make internship experiences more accessible.

Permanent residents of Otsego County and contiguous counties who are interning for academic credit either in the United States or abroad are eligible to apply. Award preference goes to students who graduated from Oneonta High School.

Internships are an increasingly important part of the college experience. More than 500 SUNY Oneonta students complete credit-bearing internships in their fields of study each year. A growing variety of opportunities is available right in the Oneonta area through partnerships with businesses and nonprofit organizations, many of which advertise openings and network with students at the college's annual Job Internship & Volunteer Expo.

Connections with Oneonta alumni through events such as the annual Backpacks to Briefcases networking event and the New York City Internship Fair help students land internships further afield, and many of these opportunities lead to full-time employment after graduation.

In 2014, SUNY Oneonta launched a new international internship program offering opportunities in 12 major cities around the world in partnership with the Academic Internship Council and Connect-123.
