Katrina Fandrich Selected to Receive Scholarship

2016 Nov 11

Katrina Fandrich of Clay, NY, has been selected by the SUNY Oneonta Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences faculty to receive the M. Ira Dubins Scholarship Award. Fandrich, who is pursuing a degree in meteorology, was honored at the department's annual Majors' Night in October.

The M. Ira Dubins Scholarship Award is made possible by generous gifts from the family of the late M. Ira Dubins, emeritus professor of geology and trained Air Force weather forecaster. The scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated academic achievement, a strong work ethic, and who reflect the variety of capabilities exhibited by its namesake.

Now in its 40th year, Majors' Night offers the department's undergraduates the opportunity to network with alumni who return to campus for the event, where they share their experiences and offer advice to current students.

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences is one of five academic departments within SUNY Oneonta's School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences. The college is a founding member of the Chenango-Delaware-Otsego Workforce Investment Board's STEM Leadership Council, which promotes programs that stimulate young people's interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers, and establishes educational pathways between high schools, colleges and workplaces.
