Katrina Fandrich Recognized for Outstanding Research and Creative Activity

2017 May 8

Katrina Fandrich of Clay, NY, was one of 12 SUNY Oneonta students recognized for outstanding research at the 2017 Student Research & Creative Activity Day.

Fandrich received the honorable mention undergraduate award for a project titled "Examining Hurricane Stage Durations from 1980-2015." Fandrich, who is majoring in meteorology, developed the project under the guidance of Melissa Godek of the Earth & Atmospheric Sciences Department.

Students were nominated for the awards by their faculty sponsors, and finalists were ranked and selected by a group of faculty and staff reviewers during the college's annual Student Research & Creativity Day on April 12. Student honorees were recognized at a reception on April 26 and will receive monetary prizes funded by the college foundation.

Created to recognize and promote undergraduate scholarship and creative activity, Student Research & Creative Activity Day has become the premier on-campus event for scholarly student exhibition. This year's event featured 115 student presentations on a wide variety of topics across academic disciplines.

Many of the projects were supported through SUNY Oneonta's Student Grant Program for Research and Creative Activity, which is funded by the college foundation and the Oneonta Alumni Association through the generosity of alumni and friends of the college.
