Katrina Fandrich Receives Award for Academic Excellence

2017 Nov 10

Katrina Fandrich of Clay, NY, is the recipient of the college's M. Ira Dubins Scholarship Award, given each year to a student within the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Fandrich, who is pursuing a major in meteorology, was honored at the department's annual Majors' Night in October.

Now in its 41st year, Majors' Night offers the department's undergraduates the opportunity to network with alumni who return to campus for the event, where they share their experiences and offer advice to current students.

The scholarship is made possible by generous gifts from the family of the late M. Ira Dubins, emeritus professor of geology. Dr. Dubins taught mineralogy at SUNY Oneonta until his retirement in 1989. In addition, as a trained Air Force weather forecaster, Dr. Dubins taught courses in meteorology. The Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department awards the Dubins scholarship to deserving scholars who have demonstrated academic achievement and a strong work ethic and who come from any of the department's five disciplines to reflect the variety of capabilities exhibited by Dr. Dubins.
