Kate Moore Receives Award for Academic Excellence

2017 Nov 10

Kate Moore of Ossinging, NY, is the recipient of the college's QTZ Scholarship Award and the P. Jay Fleischer Scholarship Award, given each year to a student within the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Moore, who is pursuing a major in Geology, was honored at the department's annual Majors' Night in October.

Now in its 41st year, Majors' Night offers the department's undergraduates the opportunity to network with alumni who return to campus for the event, where they share their experiences and offer advice to current students.

The QTZ Scholarship Award was established in 2001 by Terry Quinn (Class of 1982), Eric Tappa (Class of 1981) and James Zachos (Class of 1982), to help preserve the academic setting they fondly recalled from their undergraduate days at SUNY Oneonta. Through their generous support, and that of others who share their sentiment, this scholarship will recruit and retain students with outstanding performance in earth sciences disciplines. The P. Jay Fleischer Scholarship Award is made possible through the generosity of P. Jay Fleischer, emeritus faculty. It is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who pursues a major in geology or water resources. The award should provide financial support for students who, under the guidance of a faculty mentor, engage in field-oriented students and/or research.
