2015 Apr 9

Kacie Evans of Washingtonville, NY, was one of 50 outstanding SUNY Oneonta seniors selected to receive a 2015 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive awards.

Evans received the Department of Human Ecology award.

To be considered for the award, a student must be a senior with a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in an academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Evans is a fashion and textiles major with two minors in event planning and business. She is a recipient of the Girl Scout Gold Award and has served in several leadership positions at SUNY Oneonta, including vice president of the Phi Upsilon Omicron honor society, vice president of the Class of 2015 and vice president of activities for the Student Association. She is an active member of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society, Girl Scouts of America, and Student Fashion Society, and she served as an intern in the Office of Alumni Engagement. Evans was part of a small student team that planned and coordinated the annual Fashion for Food event, which raised more than $1,000 for the St. Mary’s Food pantry. She also worked with Oneonta city officials to organize the annual OH-Fest concert, designed dresses for the Student Fashion Society’s Spring Fashion Show, and served as a Girl Scout camp counselor.
