Kacie Evans Organizes Fashion for Food Fundraiser for Food Pantry

2013 Nov 15

Kacie Evans of Washingtonville, NY , worked with two other SUNY Oneonta event planning students to organize a benefit fashion show that raised more than $1,000 for a local food pantry.

More than 120 people attended the "Fashion for Food" fundraiser on Nov. 8 at the Oneonta Elks Club. The event included a pasta dinner prepared and served by Food Service and Restaurant Administration students, followed by the fashion show.

Fashion students modeled outfits culled from the racks of a local consignment store, as well as some of their own creations. Accessories provided by a local jewelry store completed each ensemble. Hooked on Tonics, the college's mixed a cappella group, performed during a break between fashion show acts, and door prizes donated by local merchants were raffled off at the end of the night. Proceeds from the event were donated to the St. Mary's Food Pantry in Oneonta.

Evans , a member of the Class of 2015, is majoring in Fashion and Textiles at SUNY Oneonta.

Earlier this year, SUNY Oneonta founded its School of Education and Human Ecology to give greater focus to disciplines and careers in those areas. The college's Department of Human Ecology offers majors in Child and Family Studies, Dietetics, General Human Ecology, Fashion and Textiles, and Food and Restaurant Administration.

A liberal arts college with a pre-professional focus, SUNY Oneonta features outstanding and accessible faculty, students committed to academics and community service, exceptional technology, a modern field house and athletic facilities, and a beautiful campus. The college enrolls 6,000 students in its 70 undergraduate majors and 15 graduate programs.
