Jessica Kemmerling Receives Academic Achievement Award

2015 Apr 9

Jessica Kemmerling of Owego, NY, was one of 50 outstanding SUNY Oneonta seniors selected to receive a 2015 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive awards.

Kemmerling received the Communication Arts Department and the Art Department award.

To be considered for the award, a student must be a senior with a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in an academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Kemmerling is a double major in computer art and communication studies, with a minor in advertising. As president of American Advertising Federation, she has been involved in student rebranding competitions for national brands, including Mary Kay cosmetics and Pizza Hut. She serves as vice president of the Communication Arts Society and an active member of the Alpha Phi Omega a co-ed community service fraternity, acquiring more than 300 hours of community service. She is also a member of the Lambda Pi Eta communications honor society and Alpha Delta Sigma advertising honor society, and she has worked for the Office of Admissions as a tour guide and Admissions Assistant. Kemmerling has done three internships: in video production for White Knight Productions in Vestal, NY; in advertising design for Shamrock Media in Owego, NY, and in marketing and web design for Project Buena Vista in Oneonta, NY. She hopes to attend graduate school to pursue a career in art direction, with the goal of working for an advertising agency.
