Jack Chesebro III Recognized for Community Service

Jack Chesebro III of Rome, NY, was among 47 members of the SUNY Oneonta Class of 2015 who received Senior Service Awards recognizing their commitment to volunteerism. Seniors who completed at least 350 hours of service through the college's Center for Social Responsibility and Community (CSRC) were recognized during a reception in May.

Collectively, these students volunteered 39,796 hours in activities such as fundraising, helping in local school classrooms, tutoring and serving as emergency medical technicians. Overall, 549 members of the Class of 2015 logged a total of 56,566 volunteer hours during their time at SUNY Oneonta.

Chesebro III logged 937.51 hours of service as a classroom helper, e-board member and notetaker for students served by the the college's Student Disabilities Services office.

More than 20 percent of SUNY Oneonta students donate time to a local organization or cause through the CSRC. As a result, SUNY Oneonta contributes over 50,000 hours of service annually to nearly 100 nonprofit agencies in Oneonta and beyond. In recognition of the college's civic partnerships and service learning activities, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching awarded SUNY Oneonta its Community Engagement Classification in 2011.
