Illari Delgado Presents Parasitology Research at National Meeting

2015 Jul 30

Illari Delgado of Newfield, NY, presented research at the 90th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Parasitologists from June 25-28 in Omaha, Neb. Delgado was one of six SUNY Oneonta undergraduate students who traveled to the meeting with Dr. Florian Reyda, associate professor of biology.

The students presented posters on the results of their own parasitology research projects on marine stingray tapeworms and host-parasite systems of Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, NY, where SUNY Oneonta operates a Biological Field Station (BFS). Reyda gave an oral presentation on the results of a long-term fish parasite survey of Otsego Lake that has involved collaboration by 46 SUNY Oneonta undergraduate students at the BFS during the last seven years.

All of the students received student research grants from the college, and their travel to the meeting was supported by the college's Caroline '67 and David D'Antonio Student Travel for Excellence Fund and by the Student Travel for Excellence Program.

Founded in 1924, the American Society of Parasitologists is a group of more than 800 scientists from industry, government and academia who are interested in the study and teaching of parasitology.
