Heather Miller Receives Academic Achievement Award

2016 May 31

Heather Miller of Carthage, NY, was one of 54 outstanding SUNY Oneonta students selected to receive a 2016 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive the award.

Miller received the Psychology Department award.

To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Miller graduated in three years with a B.S. in psychology and a minor in studio art. Achievements include the Susan Sutton Smith Award for academic excellence, induction into the Psi Chi international honor society and being named to either the provost’s list or the dean’s list each semester. She served as a teaching assistant and completed independent research with two psychology faculty members, Dr. Andrew Gallup and Dr. Julia Blau. Miller was also very involved on campus, including serving as Kickline captain and as a choreographer and dancer for the Terpsichorean Dance Company and participating in Relay for Life. She also participated in an intercultural immersion service learning trip and volunteered at the annual NYC Art Therapy Summit. Miller has been accepted into the art therapy and counseling M.S. program at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
