Ethan Dudla Performs in A Cappella Competition

2016 Mar 23

Ethan Dudla of Stillwater, NY, competed in an International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Northeast Quarterfinal on Feb. 20 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dudla is a tenor in SUNY Oneonta's Hooked On Tonics a cappella group.

The 18-member ensemble performed a set that included "Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" by Boyz II Men and a medley of songs by Daft Punk.

This was the first time Hooked On Tonics has performed in an intercollegiate competition or done its own choreography. Although the group did not finish in the top two and advance to the ICCA Northeast Semifinal, the students had fun and got a lot of good feedback, said Associate Professor of Music Paul Carter, who founded Hooked On Tonics in 2002 and arranges many of its songs.

Hooked on Tonics performs at a variety of community and campus events. Upcoming performances include "A Night of Vocal Harmony" on March 26, Academic Exploration Day for accepted students on April 2 and a benefit concert for Save the Children on April 19.
