Emma Innella Receives Academic Achievement Award

2016 May 31

Emma Innella of New Hyde Park, NY, was one of 54 outstanding SUNY Oneonta students selected to receive a 2016 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive the award.

Innella received the Human Ecology Department (Child and Family Studies program) award.

To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Innella has earned a spot on the Provost's List for six semesters. She was awarded the Human Ecology Department Scholarship for the 2015-2016 academic year, and has been the recipient of the Susan Sutton Smith Award and the Richard Siegfried Award for academic excellence. Outside of the classroom, Innella has been on the executive board for SUNY Oneonta's Habitat for Humanity club for two years, and served as vice president this past year. Through her involvement with the Habitat organization, she has participated in two Collegiate Challenge Spring Break trips to build homes for families in two different states. Locally, she has helped build three homes for families in the Oneonta area. Other community service activities include serving as a mentor for elementary school students. Innella helped to coordinate the Child and Family Studies "College Buddies" mentoring program, which placed more than 60 SUNY Oneonta students with nearly 80 at-risk youth in our local community. She plans to pursue a master’s degree in school counseling.
