David Busby selected as SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year

2017 Jan 12

The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is proud to announce the winners of its inaugural Scholar Athletes of the Year. Each season the conference will recognize student-athletes for their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and in their respective sports.

Earning honors from SUNY Oneonta was senior David Busby of New Paltz for men's cross country.

To be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award students must prove both academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a 3.30 overall GPA, by being a starter or significant reserve for their team and they must be at least a sophomore.

Through the fall semester, Busby carries a 3.96 GPA while majoring in Environmental Science. This past cross country season he helped lead the men to its first ever NCAA Division III championship meet where they finished 22nd overall.

Busby was a First Team All-SUNYAC runner after finishing in fifth place at the conference championship. His finish also earned him inclusion into the SUNYAC Cross Country Championship Hall of Fame. He finished 25th at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship to earn All-Region honors for a second time during his four-year career with Oneonta.

Academically, Busby has been honored three times as a USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete in cross country and once for track & field. Last spring, he was selected as a CoSIDA Academic All-American for cross country/track & field while being inducted into the National Student Athlete Honor Society of Chi Alpha Sigma.
