David Busby honored by SUNY Oneonta Athletics Department

The SUNY Oneonta athletics department held its 28th annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 2 and honored 16 student athletes as major award recipients.

David Busby of New Paltz, NY was one of the major award winners for the 2016-17 year.

Busby was selected as the male Scholar Athlete of the Year. Busby has been a top runner for both the cross country and track & field teams during his four-year tenure with both programs. This past fall he was a First Team All-Conference and an All-Region runner for the men's cross country team that qualified for the NCAA championships for the first time in history. Busby is a five-time USTFCCCA Scholar Athlete and, last spring, earned Third Team honors as a CoSIDA Academic All-American.

The Scholar Athlete Award is given annually to a starting player who has made a significant contribution to the team success while accumulating a minimum overall GPA of 3.3. Academic and athletic criteria are weighted equally.
