Daniela Gutierrez Inducted into Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society

2015 Feb 25

Daniela Gutierrez of Hampton Bays, NY, was one of 21 students inducted into SUNY Oneonta's Beta Eta Chapter of the Chi Alpha Epsilon national honor society during a ceremony on Feb. 5.

Chi Alpha Epsilon was formed in 1989 at West Chester University in Pennsylvania to recognize the academic achievements of students admitted to colleges and universities through nontraditional criteria. Its purposes are to promote continued high academic standards, to foster increased communication among its members, and to honor academic excellence achieved by those students admitted to college via developmental programs.

SUNY Oneonta's Beta Eta Chapter members are full-time Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) students who have held a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for at least two consecutive semesters.

A graduate of Hampton Bays High School, Gutierrez is majoring in Psychology at SUNY Oneonta. In addition to her academic achievements, she has been very active in student life. After serving as vice president in hall government during her freshman year, she was one of 15 students chosen to serve as Academic Team Members, trained peer advisers who live in residence halls and promote and support students' academic success. Gutierrez was also selected to serve as an orientation leader for the 2014-15 academic year, and she has served as treasurer of the Student Association Activities Council. She is the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Helping Hands organization.
