Daniel Prince Receives Grant for Summer Internship

2017 May 26

Daniel Prince of Tully, NY, has received a grant to support an internship this summer at New York Central Mutual Insurance in Edmeston, NY. Prince is majoring in Computer Science at SUNY Oneonta.

Sixteen SUNY Oneonta students received funding totaling $21,800 through the Helen & Michael Casper Fellowship for Internship Support, which was created through the charitable gifts of Andrea Casper '75 in honor and memory of her parents.

In recognition of the impact that participating in an internship can make on a student's educational experience and career, the Helen & Michael Casper Fellowship for Internship Support is intended to help make internship experiences accessible for more SUNY Oneonta students. The fund was established through Possibilities Full of Promise, the 125th Anniversary Campaign for SUNY Oneonta.

This year's fellowship recipients will complete summer internships in a variety of disciplines in locations ranging from Oneonta, NY, to Dublin, Ireland.

Internships are an increasingly important part of the college experience. More than 500 SUNY Oneonta students complete credit-bearing internships in their fields of study each year. A growing variety of opportunities is available right in the Oneonta area through partnerships with businesses and nonprofit organizations, many of which advertise openings and network with students at the college's annual Job Internship & Volunteer Expo.

Connections with Oneonta alumni through events such as the annual Backpacks to Briefcases networking event and the New York City Internship Fair help students land internships further afield, and many of these opportunities lead to full-time employment after graduation.

In 2014, SUNY Oneonta launched a new international internship program offering opportunities in 14 major cities around the world in partnership with the Academic Internship Council and Connect-123.
