Chris Mackin of Merrick, N.Y., Directs "No Exit" at SUNY Oneonta

2013 Nov 8

Chris Mackin of Merrick, N.Y., made his collegiate directorial debut on Oct. 31, opening night of the Mask and Hammer theatre club's production of "No Exit" at SUNY Oneonta.

An existential drama written by French philosopher and playwright Jean-Paul Sartre, "No Exit" ran from Oct. 31-Nov. 3 in SUNY Oneonta's Hamblin Theater. Mackin is a junior majoring in theatre at SUNY Oneonta.

Earlier this year, SUNY Oneonta founded its School of Arts and Humanities to give greater focus to disciplines and careers in those areas. The college's Department of Theatre offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in theatre, as well as minors in both theatre and dance. Every academic year, the college's theatre students, faculty and staff collaborate with members of Mask and Hammer, one of the oldest student organizations on campus, to present four productions. Mask and Hammer produces an additional two to three student-directed shows.

A liberal arts college focused on teaching and learning, SUNY Oneonta ranks 16th among the "Top Public Regional Universities--North" in the 2014 U.S. News and World Report rankings, sits at No. 59 on the Kiplinger's magazine list of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" and has been recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for excellence in community engagement. The college enrolls 6,000 students in its 70 undergraduate majors and 15 graduate programs.
