Cara Adams earns WBCA Honor

2017 Mar 20

SUNY Oneonta senior Cara Adams of Attleboro, Ma was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American in women's basketball after her oustanding season for the Red Dragons.

Adams becomes the third player in the history of the women's program to be honored nationally and the second consecutive after Lyteshia Price was an Honorable Mention All-American last year. In 2001, Paula Polce was the first women's player honored by the WBCA with her selection as a First Team All-American.

"This is an amazing honor for a well-deserved athlete," stated Head Coach Daphne Thompson. "I'm thankful that Cara is being recognized for her effort to be the best player she could be."

Adams, who was a First Team All-SUNYAC selection this season, put together a tremendous senior campaign to cap a brilliant career at Oneonta. She led the team in scoring with 318 points that included a team best 64 three-point field goals. She finished fifth in the SUNYAC in scoring, third in three-pointers made and sixth in three-point field goal percentage.

This season, Adams made a three-pointer in 22 of the 24 games she played and made five three-pointers in five different games. She set the single season mark of 72 made three-pointers last year. She also scored in double figures in 19 games this season.

For her career, Adams played in 101 games and scored 880 points and converted a program record 200 three-point field goals making her only the second player - man or woman - in school history to reach that mark. Her percentage from behind the arc was 35 percent, which is fourth best all-time and her 567 attempts is most all-time.

The Red Dragons finished 15-11 overall and 12-6 in the SUNYAC this winter.
