Caitlin Dempsey Elected to College at Oneonta Foundation Board of Directors

2015 Jun 1

Caitlin Dempsey of Hopewell Junction, NY, was one of three SUNY Oneonta students elected to the College at Oneonta Foundation Board of Directors at a board meeting on April 10 in New York City.

Established in 1982 with the mission of raising and administering gifts and grants to enhance the academic status of the college, the State University College at Oneonta Foundation Corporation is governed by a volunteer board of directors.

Each year, two SUNY Oneonta students are elected to one-year terms as student directors with full voting privileges. A third student, usually a rising junior, may also be elected as an honorary student director who can serve on committees but does not have voting privileges.

Dempsey was elected as an honorary director for a one-year term from June 2015 to June 2016. An Elementary Education major, Dempsey is a rising junior who has served as an orientation leader and Very Influential Peer for the college’s Office of New Student Services. She has volunteered during Freshman Service Day in Oneonta and at the Historical Society Schoolhouse near her home. Among her honors and activities are dean’s list, Susan Sutton Smith Student Award for Academic Excellence, Richard Siegfried Student Award, Silver Level - LEAD, Student Education Department Representative for the Faculty Senate, Secretary of the ACE Club and LEAD Emerging Leaders Conference.

Five SUNY Oneonta alumni were also elected or re-elected to the board: Yvonne Cummings '72, M.P.A., senior director of Revenue Management at the New York City Health and Hospitals Corp.; Jay Jacobs '77, J.D., president and CEO of the Timberlake Family of Camps in New York and Pennsylvania; Angelo Scopelianos '77, Ph.D., retired senior vice president of Research and Development for Advanced Technologies and Regenerative Medicine, a centralized research and development organization within Johnson & Johnson; Mary Milmore '06H, who also serves on the foundation board's Advancement and Red Dragon Open golf tournament committees; and Michael Williams '88, C.P.A., a partner at Schulman Wolfson & Abruzzo, LLP in New York City.
