2018 May 3

Anna Zoodsma of Poughkeepsie, NY, was one of more than 50 outstanding SUNY Oneonta students selected to receive a 2018 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive the award.

Zoodsma received the Geography and Environmental Sustainability award.

To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Zoodsma is an exemplary scholar and ambassador for sustainability. She’s an active participant in the Environmental Science Club, a trip leader for the Outdoor Adventure Club, and an intern with the Office of Sustainability. Beyond campus, she's volunteered with Common Ground Relief in New Orleans and Amigos del Lago in Guatemala, worked in various aspects of the sustainable agriculture field including locally at Middlefield Orchards and Origins Cafe, and continues to be involved in advocacy work involving the Youth Food Movement and other environmental justice issues. After graduation, she plans to gain experience in the field of sustainability before pursuing her masters in International Agricultural Development.
