Andrew Platt Selected to Receive Scholarship Award

2015 Oct 28

Andrew Platt of Almond, NY, has been selected by the SUNY Oneonta Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences faculty to receive the P. Jay Fleisher Scholarship Award. Platt, who is pursuing a degree in Geology and Music Industry, was honored at the department's annual Majors' Night.

Now in its 39th year, Majors' Night offers the department's undergraduates the opportunity to network with alumni who return to campus for the event, where they share their experiences and offer advice to current students.

The P. Jay Fleisher Scholarship Award is made possible through the generosity of P. Jay Fleisher, emeritus faculty member. It is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student who pursues a major in geology or water resources. The award provides financial support for students who, under the guidance of a faculty mentor, engage in field-oriented studies and/or research.

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences is one of five academic departments within SUNY Oneonta's School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences. The college is a founding member of the Chenango-Delaware-Otsego Workforce Investment Board's STEM Leadership Council, which promotes programs that stimulate young people's interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers, and establishes educational pathways between high schools, colleges and workplaces.
