Andrew Helfman honored by the SUNYAC

The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced that SUNY Oneonta sophomore Andrew Helfman of Moorestown has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week. Despite a pair of losses for the Red Dragons, Helfman turned in a pair of tremendous performances in goal.

Helfman's performances came against city rival Hartwick College and SUNYAC rival Cortland where he registered 33 saves over the two games. Against Hartwick, he made 13 stops in a 12-11 setback. This past Saturday, he made 20 saves in an 11-10 overtime loss to No. 9 Cortland.

In both contests, Helfman kept Oneonta in the game with his athleticism between the pipes making save after save in crucial situations. Against Cortland, his performance allowed his team to erase a three-goal deficit in the final period to force overtime.

Helfman has logged 457 minutes in goal this year and has an 8.93 goals against average and a .598 save percentage.
