Amber Piper Selected to Receive Scholarship

2016 Nov 11

Amber Piper of Watertown, NY, has been selected by the SUNY Oneonta Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences faculty to receive the Peter W. Knightes Scholarship Award. Piper, who is pursuing a degree in adolescence education: earth science, was honored at the department's annual Majors' Night in October.

The Peter W. Knightes Scholarship Award is supported by an endowed fund that was launched by Peter Knightes '67. It is awarded to a student who intends to teach earth science in New York state.

Now in its 40th year, Majors' Night offers the department's undergraduates the opportunity to network with alumni who return to campus for the event, where they share their experiences and offer advice to current students.

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences is one of five academic departments within SUNY Oneonta's School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences. The college is a founding member of the Chenango-Delaware-Otsego Workforce Investment Board's STEM Leadership Council, which promotes programs that stimulate young people's interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers, and establishes educational pathways between high schools, colleges and workplaces.
