2016 May 31

Allyson Church of Binghamton, NY, was one of 54 outstanding SUNY Oneonta students selected to receive a 2016 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive the award.

Church received the Psychology Department award.

To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

During her three years at SUNY Oneonta, Church has been actively involved in Residential Community Life and the Psychology Department. She was a resident advisor in Curtis Hall for two years, and served on the executive boards of both the National Residence Hall Honorary and the Resident Student Organization. Within the Psychology Department, she was a research assistant for four semesters and a teaching assistant for three semesters. Working with Dr. Andrew Gallup, she contributed to three academic journal publications and presented her research findings at SUNY Oneonta’s Student Research and Creative Activity Day. Church is also a member of SUNY Oneonta’s circle of the Omicron Delta Kappa honor society.
