Alexa Amalbert receives SUNYAC Elite 20 Award

SUNY Oneonta sophomore Alexa Amalbert (Nanuet) was chosen as the recipient of the SUNTAC Elite 20 Award at the recently completed conference basketball tournament hosted by SUNY Geneseo. The Elite 20 Award honors the student athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing at the finals site of each of its 20 championships.

Amalbert was one of two players to start all 27 games for the Red Dragons this season. She was third on the team in scoring (236 pts., 8.7 ppg.) while leading the team with 84 assists. She was also second on the team with 28 steals and 27 three-pointers made.

Amalbert, a computer science major with minors in math and business, carries over a 3.9 GPA. She is a Presidential and Alumni Scholarship recipient and has appeared on the Provost's and Dean's List while also earning honors on the SUNYAC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll.

The Red Dragons were 19-8 this season and finished in second place in the SUNYAC. Oneonta played in the conference tournament championship game coming up short to Geneseo 58-52.

The SUNYAC Elite 20 award is modeled after the NCAA Elite 90 program, which recognizes the true essence of the student athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
