Adjani Reed Receives Academic Achievement Award

Adjani Reed of East Elmhurst, NY, was one of 54 outstanding SUNY Oneonta students selected to receive a 2016 Academic Achievement Award this spring. Each academic department or program selected one to three outstanding seniors to receive the award.

Reed received the Music Department award.

To be considered for the award, a student must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.5 in his or her major and must demonstrate exceptional academic improvement over four semesters, as well as excellence in research; leadership and involvement in department, campus and community activities; and/or participation in academic and/or professional situation outside the college.

Reed has been active in many leadership and diversity programs at SUNY Oneonta, including the Diversity Peer Educator Program, AALANA Mentor Program, Students of Color Coalition, Caribbean Student Association (president), Center for Multicultural Experiences (student manager) and Pan-African Student Organization. She was an on-air personality, trainer and general manager for SUNY Oneonta’s student-run radio station, WONY 90.9FM, and she served as an audio board engineer and entertainment news co-anchor for WIRE-TV’s “Hot Music Now” program. In addition, Reed was a staff writer for The State Times student newspaper, vice president of the Frequency step team, judicial officer for the Student Association, volunteer coordinator for OH Fest and the annual Global Movement Festival, and an event planner for the Fashion for Food charity fundraiser. She is a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa leadership honor society.
